Mary Velky
Board Secretary
Mary spent over 25 years working in Sales, Marketing and Operations for a fortune 500 company. Her career began in the Washington DC area where she helped launch the automation of one of the largest database conversions of its time. Her efforts expanded into several east coast locations, landing her in New York City for ten years. Here she managed the Northeast Sales and Marketing division, responsible for consulting with major financial institutions including Citibank, GE and Chase. As the company expanded its CMS division in the western US, Mary accepted a position to open up a sales location in Denver to work with financial institutions in this part of the country. She had anticipated returning to the east coast but fell in love with Colorado. It is here she met her husband of 25 years, Paul, and began raising her son, Cameron.
Mary’s career required extensive travel, so she made the difficult decision to put her career on hold. After several years of motherhood, Mary chose to find a new career path to utilize her creative skills. She returned to school and earned a degree in Interior Architecture and Design. This new career path allowed her to work on a part time basis, while still raising her son. Today, Mary, Paul, and Cameron reside in Denver and enjoy an active lifestyle which includes cycling, hiking, skiing, yoga and travel.
For the last few years, Mary has focused on volunteering in various organizations supporting the needs of children and their families. She helped start a support group for parents of premature babies. She now works in various nonprofits supporting families in need and is looking forward to helping launch Women’s WOW to assist in the effort to help empower women in the adaptive community.
